Frot Laffly Landship 1915

Here's an odd one I'd love to see someone do a model of. It seems pretty simple from what I can make out of it;
Frot Laffly Landship 1915-frot_laffly_28_march_1915.jpgFrot Laffly Landship 1915-frotturmellafflytank.jpg

And here's the Wikipedia page on it;

They just don't make 'em like they used to.

That would be nice, especially if all the rivets were done raised and not just drawn on.

Not sure how far it would have gotten in the Flanders mud with those wheels and ten tons of weight, all powered by 20hp. Still, an interesting design.

At a top speed of 3-5 km/hr even if it didn't immediately bog down it would have suffered the same fate as the first attack of the Schneider CA1s - slaughtered by artillery before they got to the start line.

Regards,

Charlie

Yes, a flawed design by any standard but I still think it's a great emblem of the "landship" thinking of an era before reality took hold. It's as much fantasy to me as it is reality.

If I can find a good three way I would give it a go. I am having fun with the Laffley AM80 right now...

I think it has a certain Steampunk quality to it. I wouldn't want to be in it. Almost looks like a precursor to armored trains? Very Interesting.

Charlie's points are all quite valid, but I can see Chris's perspective that the vehicle is both fombily and steampunkly interesting visually and of historical interest. It would be a good addition to a collection of pre-Willie armored vehicles that either never were fielded or failed operationally.

Yeah, what he said.
Haven't been able to track down any more good photos or drawings, just this bad one, but at least it suggests the front/rear size;

For me, even a guesstimated version of this one would be just fine and dandy.
