DH Mosquito Bomber Nose Section
Orlik and Maly both produce nice 1/33-scale models of the DH Mosquito gunship -- solid nose packed with machine guns.
I wish someone would design a bombardier's nose section for either of those kits with the glass nose, side windows, and belly hatch. Murph's Models has a simple one in 1/50, but it doesn't translate well to 1/33. You would only have to create a new nose section, not an entire aircraft.

David one of our members back in 2012 did a review of a mosquito of the glazed nose type you are looking for. But I don't know if kit is still available. or if its parts are interchangeable. I took a look at the Orlick sample sheet example and the petal nose design looks like it would be difficult to change to the glazed nose using those exact same parts. (But not impossible to convert).
Our member s3nhas some photos of the kit parts in his review so maybe there's some clues as how to change Orlick or Maly parts. s3n De Havilland «Mosquito» 1/33. History Parts Last edited by Doubting Thomas; 12-07-2022 at 02:15 PM. |

On second thoughts, it's not just the glazing in the nose and side windows.
It's like my Dad's airplane the B24 and his bombardier position. Creating/designing the flooring, seat, bomb sight, rear wall, equipment thats all around the fuselage, etc. So it is a sub-assembly that becomes a mini kit in itself. |

I don't doubt it. But there are designers in this community who are creating models that are no less complex. I have both "Mossie" kits and would gladly provide necessary parts to any designer. The project would be mainly from the instrument panel forward.

Very interesting kits that would result.
There would be quite a bit of detail in a relatively small space. It would be a project that would consume little space |

In some ways this is solved by so much of the nose being glazed without framing, which would be a vacform or heat moulded part and therefore avoids the design needing to use petals or slices. As long as the skin had enough thickness to bond to the clear plastic with superglue, a pretty realistic profile could be designed in this scale with enough slice sections. The only issue is the shape of the side windows, which might require the sections to be divided at an angle other than vertical.

I have the Orlik Mosquito kit
(with laser cut wood formers! a purchase at the IPMC auction way back) I see what you mean about the machine gun nose. I would probably want to build it that way...what boy doesn't love four 20mm cannons up front?! But I really can't stand petal assembly and the nose on this Orlik model is absolutely hideous. I took a quick look at the old Maly kit too...its the same ugly petal design. But the MM kit is also different size. The nose section is slightly shorter, and the diameter of that former is smaller. Funny thing...both nose sections and formers are slightly egg shaped, not perfectly round. And both are slightly flattened on one side. Other than the size difference, they are almost exactly the same shape (when overlaid). But the MM model nose is flattened on the bottom, whereas the Orlik kit is flattened on the top! Which is going to make an interesting difference in the look of the model. I wonder which model is more accurate? Anyway...if I was ever to build this Orlik kit, I would also consider a modified nose if nothing else, only to get rid of the awful petal part. Although it might be difficult to recreate the colours and printed surface (to match). ? If I ever decide to...
