Buckminster Fuller's Dymaxion Car

This would make an interesting model in 1/25 scale.

Buckminster Fuller was an inventor and architect who, in 1933, attempted to reinvent the automobile when he presented the teardrop shaped Dymaxion car. It had three wheels, a rear-mounted Ford V8 engine, was twenty feet long and could seat up to 11 passengers. The rear mounted engine drove the front wheels, the single rear wheel steered the car. Alas at the 1933 Chicago World’s Fair where the car was being demonstrated there was an accident. Two passengers were seriously injured, the driver was killed and along with him, the Dymaxion Car. Three cars had been built, one had now been badly damaged, the other two were moth-balled and became part of the collection of the National Automobile Museum in Reno, Nevada. (Source, text & photos: Carsthatwerenevermadeetc on Tumblr)

Apparently, the single rear wheel made the car unstable. Another web site refers to the Dymaxion as "dangerous."

I agree. Also would like to see the Stout Scarab as it is similarly streamlined.

Have a bunch of reference on both, especially the Stout Scarab. But not being a designer and too many other projects haven't done anything with either.

We have one of the Dymaxion prototypes (only one I know exists) here at the National Auto Museum in Reno. Definitely a wonder to see.

Love to see one!

I have always been a big Bucky F. fan. The subject would be a great one to visit.

Good-luck and please post pictures if you proceed.

Be safe out there!

That's Buckminster Fuller for you. Love to see one if it ever comes to fruition.
