Bugatti Racer Resurrected

Just got wind of this through EAA. A couple of guys are building a replica of the Bugatti Racer and intend to fly it. Looks like it will be done in about a year from the way they are talking. Here is a link to the EAA site.

Just thought some of you might be interested. Who knows when the Ultrabolt is done and if no one has tackled this I might take a crack at it.

I was a member of the EAA for almost 15 years. I always thought the Bugatti was way ahead of it's time. I hope they did wind tunnel testing because the ruder and elevators look to small to me, but that is a lay persons opinion. It looks beautiful. The EAA is a fantastic org.

That would be interesting. The only model I know of the plane is a real high dollar resin.

I did see a paper model of it a couple of years ago, but it was pretty sad and overly complicated with no instructions.

Bugatti's Design Philosophy

Mr Bugatti received a letter of complaint from someone about the brakes of one of his models. He said, “Brakes? Brakes? My cars are made to go, not stop!” I'm wondering if the same attitude was extended to the design of this aircraft. Just who's going to be the test pilot I wonder . . . ,

YES!!!!!! Thats ubercool Will!!
That would be the end of a quest for me..:D
I have a lot of reference,I can put it on my "iDisk" so you can download it from there, and David Sakrison's walk-around is here; http://gallery.me.com/billy.leliveld#100011
BTW, I started that thread over at Z along time ago, it got a lot of response, but no one ever took the challenge to paperize the Bugatti.( not even dr. Zarkov) I think he stopped designing.

They should shoot the whole aircraft with a laser survey instrument that can shoot what is called a 'point cloud' they will be able to recreate the whole airframe and wings in 3d and then accurately derive their wing profiles from the digital model.

This is pretty interesting. Like the recreation of the Horton Gotha Flying Wing.

I was fairly sure that I'd seen a paper model of the Bugatti Racer somewhere, and sure enough here it is.

Alberto - Modelos de Papel

Pretty basic to be sure.
