Understood. I'll wait patiently for the release then. From the looks of this and the Kashima, both are great designs!

Thanks for being patient Lex! Here is the small amount done up to today. The Hull skins colouring turned out pretty good. There seems to be a small fitting proble but I designed it to be trimmed to the frame work. You start aft at the ships nameplate then wrap the skins forward. Then you start on one side from the stem on back. The stem needs a little trimming to fit the longitudinal former just flush with a miniscule of overlap. Then the strips are continued aft to the back skins. You can butt glue the fwd to aft skins with a little trimming but the overlap isn't horrible as shown here. I built up the fwd foc'stle and placed the crysanthemum. Kinda got impatient to see how this would look. anyways more tomorrow...

The Imperiam Chrysanthemum looks good, Ted. Hōshō looks quite interesting with that after superstructure and without the flight deck. One of the values of these build threads is that one gets insights into the way these ships were put together that are hard to evaluate from photographs and drawings.

Don, another "cheat" that I do is I look at how the "plastic model" went together. Sometimes the kit reviews give you that insight you need when no actual blueprint is available. Steel Navy and modelships.com have given me alot of inspiration. What those guys can do with PE and other stuff in 1/700 scale is fantastic.

Some progress at last

I started on the foc'stle building up the chain guides capstans and such. Relatively simple shapes, cylinders and just layers laminated up to a 3d effect...

The next bit is the aft hanger front. I'm not quite satisfied with the effect using laminated .5mm card. I think the final will be just plain card reinforced with thicker stuff. I also finished the after deck. The only things to finish back aft is the flight deck supports, more later...

Looks very good, even the printed-on chain looks convincing!

4.7 "deck guns

Thanks Mike and Don. Tonights bit of progress is the 4.7" gunhouses. These were semi-enclosed structures with the backs open. Some wartime pics show the back ends covered with a canvas flap so on these I included a rolled up canvas cover mounted to the back of the gun house. There is a template for the barrels to be made of wire or plastic stock, but I "cheated" and used the 4.7 barrels from the GPM Kitakami barrel set. Here they are dry fitted to their respective palces on the hull maindeck...
