Help!!!
Hmm, wonder what the 'bumping your own thread' rule is on this site? Think I'm probably breaking it, but as I didn't get a single reply, I thought I might get away with just one bump!
I'll only bump it once though. Either I've already got all the info that is available or I've put this in the wrong section! If it fades away, so be it!! |

Hay buddy! I am looking. I have some ideas on some, and have nothing on the others! I will shoot something to you or post here soon! Good luck. I can hardly wait to see your whole fleet!

Looks like you have a good start on the USS Mystic if you take a bit of guess work based on other similar ships of the period.

It's not that I wouldn't like to help you, but there is very little information about these ships. I managed to get some info about the CSS Beaufort (ex-Caledonia) from Bob Holcombe. It's from a copy of Caldonia's enrollment document of 1855. It has the following information: 90'ft. length, 17ft. beam, 6ft. depth, 85 64/95 tons, no galleries, round stern, no head. Dimensions would be moulded.

I think just like the CSS Curlew that Kaz has been helping me with, some things you might have to base on similar ships of the era and area. It sucks that so much info has been lost. But if you want the model, a bunch of educated guesses will need to be taken. (By the way, thanks Kaz again for your help!)

Thnaks guys. I was initially suprised at how little infromation is available on ACW ships. Considering the ACW was such a massive event in your history and that there seems to be much written about all the battles, I kinda expected the info on ships to be on a par. To be honest I thought there would actually be more info than on the land campaign as I have found that aeroplane of ship enthusiasts can be very 'anoraky', and I mean that in a nice way, as they will usually have loads of data. I also though that there woudl probabaly be original plans for every ships squirrelled away somewhere!
But yes, guesswork is the way forward. As I have a limited library I though someone might have an interesting snippet or too tucked away in some dusty tombe! |
