I couldn't find a real spec today, but I did talk to one of our resident old guys that spent many a year wrangling the beasties. An approximation is 6- 6.5 inches in diameter

I can die happy now.

A new job took me to the Seattle area and I bugged the boss till he agreed to take me to the museum of flight. The reason this is significant is because they have 1 of the 3 existing Super Corsairs. Since I visited Bob Odegaards shop and saw the other 2 I have now personally seen and touched all 3 my pilgrimage is complete. The Museum of Flights' Super is unique in that it is a stock Super. #57 was so trashed by the time Mr. Odegaard got around to restoring it that he had to build the whole thing forward of the firewall and although he did a spectacular job there are some noticeable differences.

Not surprisingly most of my attention during the visit focused on this area. In designing my Rhino model I thought that the 2 outboard cowl flaps on the bottom would have to be curved back the other direction to fair into the wings (instead of continuing the same curve as the rest of the cowl). Well my suspicion was correct. It is difficult to see in the pics but it is there!

I just wish I could sit in front of that beauty and work on the model because even though I have pictures you can't see enough in one picture to get that complex geometry correct. better than nothing though.

I have some photos of the only currently operable Super Corsair in existence, taken from within a private hangar at an undisclosed location. If you're interested in using a handful of good quality 8MP shots, PM me and I'll see what we can do about getting the files to you for reference.

The Super Corsair project isn't dead just working in a different direction. I'm building a foam RC model of it and thought I would share some pics.
