Long promised Turbo Otter at last

Three years ago The DGA published the DeHavilland Canada Otter model in 9 liveries. At that time I promised Turbo Otters and showed some of my early design work.

Life got in the way and I have not been building too many models of late. Ecardmodels.com requires built pictures of new models so even when I had finished the Turbos I couldn't publish it until I had built and photo'd it.

Finally I can finish the process on one of the liveries: Harbour Air

This is what the aircraft would look like with a radial engine.

Remove the radial engine.

Install the Turbine! My engines are still loose, but when I do glue it on I will line it up properly

I already have Kenmore Air and Air Saguenay turbo-liveries done and ready to be built and published. Lets see how long that takes me.

Shipping a model.

I shipped the turbo otter to the owner of the real airplane today.
I am asking him to look it over to make sure I got all of the details correct before we release it.

I want to show you how I packaged the model for shipment:

I pierced the corners of a large box and stretched large rubber bands diagonally across.
I attached the model to the large rubber bands with small rubber bands.
The note instructs the recipient to cut the small rubber bands in order to
unpack the model without damaging it.

To attach the large rubber bands to the corners of the box, I poked them through the holes and inserted toothpicks.
I used packaging tape on the outside of the box to secure the toothpicks:

I had carefully measured the height of the model and the height of the box and calculated the distance
from the top of the box to suspend the rubber bands so that the model would be held in the center of the box.

I got excellent feedback from the owner/operator at Slate Falls Airways in Sioux Lookout, ON. I have made the changes including putting on aftermarket wingtips to make the model look a lot like the real thing. Working with pilots, and mechanics and aircraft manufacturers to get the details correct is very rewarding to me!
