Looking forward to this one! One of my best friends served aboard the USS Duncan, DDR 874, which was, I believe, was also a Gearing. Nice subject!

If any of you should visit the ship, It's really quite remarkable, they are refurbishing the engineering compartments now, I'd love to model that for the virtual tour!

Here are two renderings demonstrating the abilities of Autodesk's Maya.

Meant to illustrate environmental effects such as complex reflections, this is NOT just some "background image" but rather, it is referred to as an "Image based, light dome projection".

You may even note the sky reflected on the water.

Also apparent in these two images is that the CGI model is now in Maya but all of the Autocad textures (colors) were "scrubbed" (eliminated) in the import process, so you see, the textures are now having to be reapplied in Maya.

Credit goes to my modeling and animation "Guru" known only as "Blind Mojo Johnny"...

Like what software is used other then low poly apps like papekura ets, Or do you do everything by hand?

It is being modeled in Autocad to date but will be animated in Maya.

Yes, all of the modeling is being "done by hand", over 41,000 individual objects so far and the CGI model is still only 50% complete. It an early observers of this thread can a test, it's a very lengthy and time consuming possess.

But, I think that those who appreciated my U.S.S. Monitor model will LOVE one of the three ORLECK models to come

It was even suggested that ALL of the various weapons systems could be modeled such as "Mount 52" with full interior (why not?)

The purpose of the initial, simple model for the "novice" is to introduce young STEM students to CADD and 3D animation. That's a perfectly good use for card models..
