Note the Fantail, the Fanfare and Capstan specifically, the sides of the two ONLY have been "cleaned up" illustrating the difference after clean up, the ends and tops have not yet been "scrubbed" but you get the general idea...

The first deck railing needed to be in place before I could attach it to the applied, second deck, the port side, aft railing alone required 15 openings to be removed, well beyond the abilities of a novice, this is where precision die cutting would REALLY "come in handy" as there are 35 rail openings to removed in total.


One really remarkable thing that I have discovered that makes this model specifically "unique" to me is because through this prototyping for "ease of assembly", it is actually being assembled in part, FROM THE TOP DOWN rather than from the bottom up as with all of my previous models.


Yeah, sure, you build the hull and first deck from the bottom up but I've discovered that it is actually being assembled from the top down and needs to be illustrated specifically to reflect that.


For example, the hanger and ASROC were pre-assembled and add to the second deck, when completed that is added to the first.


Likewise, the mast and all railing will be added to that Bridge and control center that I am now assembling before being added to the lower, by the time this prototype is done, I'll know specifically how it needs to be illustrated for "ease of assembly".


The second deck and bridge are simply laid upon this model for a brief comparison as I want to complete before adding them.

Michael, wait until the full color prototype that has been cleaned up, you won't even recognize it, precision die cutting would go along way to assure "uniformity in representation" regardless of skill level...

The railing fit impeccably, note how the rail post hit the deck markings perfectly, other than cutting openings and patience, it was a breeze.


The gaps that you see between the railing and the sides are intentional, not sure why but that's the way it was...

Remember my offer to cut pieces with the laser. Cannot imagine railings without the machine.

The museum reserves the option to have precision cutting and scoring but it isn't cheap, the openings being beyond the capabilities of the novice, in the absence of die cutting, these opening will simply be printed on.

The "ease of assembly" is a pretty high priority as my workspace is essentially where my computer keyboard should be, I have a very limited work area so I want to facilitate that in the assembly methods (sequences of assembly) as I anticipate that Students may also have a limited work area.

For me personally, what I find most remarkable is the precision in which the parts fit, the glue tabs, in relative multiples having angular notches to align and center parts, this thing practically "falls together" (without my help)


In Autocad, I can get the precision down to 1/100,000 of a scale inch if I wanted to, simply put, I could draw a "microbe" on the deck of this model, nobody would ever see it but I'd know that it was there! (how much fun is that!)...
