Bridge and Control Center

Okay, so I completed the Bridge and Control Center by adding the upper railing, I then assembled the radar and signal booth before applying them to the bridge assembly, the loose tabs you see at the bottom are how it attaches to the second deck sub-assembly.

Aansorge, if you ever do find yourself in "this neck of the woods", look me up and I'd be happy to give you a "vip" tour of the ship.

That would be so awesome to see my father's favorite assignment.

I'll bet there are still tell tale remnants from when the pilot housecwas expanded. Before then the now enclosed bridge was under an awning. I never figured out if it was canvas or steel when my father was on the Rupertus in 59 and 60.

Second deck components

With the Bridge and CIC (Combat Information Center) done and set aside, I then added all the various, second deck components, however, the torpedoes tubes and funnels will not be added until after the second deck is in place.

Assembly

So the completed second deck is then secured to the lower structure, it is a VERY "clean edge" where the Flight deck meets the first deck, conveniently, this seam is perfectly concealed with the flight deck netting.

The work has a very precise clean appearance to it.

Funnels

The fore and aft funnels are pretty simple, semi-elliptical, having a former at both the top and bottom.

This revealed the only real "deficiency" in my calculations as the semi-conical cowling at the tops of the funnels is an obvious misfit but I'm in a hurry.

What happened was, the cowling was perfect but the seam was inadvertently put on the side, doing a "quick-fix" I moved it to the aft of the funnel and apparently there was a miscalculation in the conversion, that will be redone before the next, color prototype.

Other than that one "exceptional", easily correctable error, I found none other whatsoever in the assembly.

With the second deck secured, the funnels as well as the bridge and CIC were added to the model, you can see a corner dinged up on the bridge shield by the model falling off of my computer monitor but that is easily correctable as well.

On the model I built for my father, 40 years after being on board the Rupertus, his comment was that the funnels looked a tad on the small size.

I checked, and he was right. By ten percent. After 40 years!
