Assessment

So I, "dusted off the 'ol drawings" and "assessed the situation" and this is apparently where I left off, a lot of the engine needs to be completed as well as all of the shaft linkage and a number of other details but it is a "start" that I don't have to do again, let's see how this works out...

(stay tuned)

The reason that I want to finish this DASH is because a 1/20 "stand alone" model is, "next on my list"

With the DASH drawing loaded, it didn't take me long to realize that all of the reference images were missing when it was separated from the rest of the drawings.

Then it was just a matter of, "where did they go?".... once located on a different machine, I now have them back where they should have been but now I have to import and scale them all over again (something that I had already done)

So I chose a moment to assess what was missing by putting the model into, "conceptual" mode that it might be easier seen, threw in a, "sketch" just for kicks.

From WIKIpedia (no cameras on board until late in the program):

The DASH's control scheme had two controllers: one on the flight deck, and another in the combat information center. The flight-deck controller handled take-off and landing. The controller in the Combat Information Center (CIC) would fly DASH to the target's location and release weapons using semiautomated controls and radar. The CIC controller could not see the aircraft or its altitude and occasionally lost operational control or situational awareness. Late in the program, there were successful experiments to add a TV camera to the drone. These DASH SNOOPYs were also used as airborne spotters for naval gunfire.[3]

This is what I'm working on today, it's the gearbox between the turbine exhaust and the rotor tower.

It's like trying to "define a jellybean in paper" (not as easy as it sounds)

This is being defined at this stage in preparation for a future, 1/20 standalone of the DASH, I would like to eventually put out 1/20 standalone for all of the various weapons systems.

In the fourth photo, you can see what comes after, it's the rotor tower and linkage (that just be fun)

What I've done is import the reference images and then scale them to, "real world", once scaled, I can then accurately measure everything in the image and transfer the x, y, z, to virtual points or vertices in 3D space, then it's just a matter of, "connecting the dots".

The actual drone on the prototype will be very simplistic and small, The reason that I'm putting so much time into the CGI model is that it can then be exported to Maya for animation as well as be used for the larger, stand alone model, so, just bare with me while I, "put a little time into it"...
