Looks like this is well past the point of being a "build thread".
Perhaps we can call it a "Documentary".

Forgive me if I missed it, but what scale do you plan to build her in?

Never was a, "build thread", I believe it would qualify however as a, "design thread" which is what it was meant to be, I'm just chronicling the process... (stay tuned) the card model will be in 1/200, the drone will probably be put out separately at 1/20.

We discussed it in depth today at the ORLECK...

Once the CGI model is done, it's nothing to break it down into it's 2D parts, I'm looking forward to it because the objective is to, "have the simplest model possible without sacrificing detail", this should be less than 100 parts, but they will be highly detailed parts, I'm looking forward to it and reminded them that card models were my, "primary objective", BOTH the ship and the DASH separately.

The reason you see what you see is, if I'm going to go through the trouble of drawing every inch of the ship in 3D then I should provide for as many digital applications as possible such as animation and video for the model as it could be put in virtually any "environment" you can think of.

I'm personally looking forward to animating the individual weapon systems in motion.

It should be interesting...

It reminds me that there are probably as many methods as there are modelers.

This is just MY method.

Gun Mounts

Okay, better late than never, this was the update I was going to send yesterday, Sunday but I lost a day or two with the storm so I had to spend all weekend playing, "catch up".

My last visit to the ship was to photograph the tops of the turrets, "Mount 51" and , "Mount 52", referred to as such, the "5" comes from the twin, five inch guns and, "1" or, "2" denotes either the fore or aft mount.

With that in hand I spent the last two weeks detailing them, now I can take a moment to render and check for errors.

Now all I have to do is the Aft Winch and the first deck is done, I can then do the stairs and move up a level.

Two additional animations were added to the play list, "Mount 51" and, "Mount 52", they can be found here->DD 886 - YouTube

I'm glad you made it through the storm just fine, and continue to be amazed at your design work!

Kurt, if I have my way, I will eventually model the interior(s) of the gun mounts...

I have a meeting onboard the ship tomorrow morning, I'm sure that a lot of things will be discussed, The model they want for promotion is to be simple, less than a hundred parts, however, it has also been suggested that the makings are there for a much more complex model, something like the U.S.S. Monitor model of approximately 1,000 parts, more suitable to the card model enthusiast.

While it has been suggested, I am not sure that I want to spend that much time on a single project but I'm not ruling it out.
