Legal issues from subjects of paper model ships
Hello all,
I am curious what might or could be the objections of a typical commercial ship owner whose vessel you have produced or wish to produce as a paper model? I am thinking specifically of the owners of car ferries in Europe, for what reasons would they object to a good quality paper model being sold of their vessel? Thanks, Alan |

I can't speak for European Car Ferry owners, but I do remember the discussion I had with the Evergreen Aviation Museum who owns the copyright for the Spruce Goose.
There's a reason you don't see many toys or models of the Goose, because they control permissions very tightly. They want every representation of the Spruce Goose to be well researched, done right, and look good. To quote "We don't want the market flooded with cheap crappy knock offs". Or as I call it, "The Disney Effect". IT wasn't even that hard to get permissions. I just had to send them a box of CD's of the model to sell in their gift shop. |

It's always best to have permissions, (before you lift a pencil) it has been my experience that many will facilitate with exclusive information that may not be in the public domain.
