F-84E/G (2nd experimental project)
Hello gents,
As you noticed I got stuck with some more ambitious projects some time ago. However while doing some more research on them projects I decided to try design 'something nice and easy from the early jets age / Korean War'. All to not to waste much of a precious time. It was good couple of months ago and now I think it got to the point where is it a definitely a goer. This will be what I have done so far in a couple of steps with the 'flying pipe' of F-84E/G Thunderjet... First tings first, so I had to establish was the correct shape of the fuselage. It is all because the fuselage doesn't look so thick as on the scale drawings. Conclusion: all shapes according to the photos, details according to the best drawings I could get (author - Mr Matsuba Minoru) Please see the photos below (more about the actual development coming soon in a next post) kind regards Cybermac Last edited by Cybermac; 04-15-2023 at 07:10 AM. |

I am glad to see you working on an accurate model of this Korean War-era classic airplane.

Hello gens,
@ Jim G - that will be the one and only 1/33 The drawings are very important but the photos seem to be the most valuable resource. @ Don Boose - Korean War is one of my main interests since over a 20yrs ago. One of my dreams is to design some more (if not all of the 'Korean war jets') which haven't been published in 1/33 so far. @ RyanShort1 - thank you! I felt really bad that I couldn't accomplish any of advanced projects, hence why F-84 Thunderjet came onto the designing desk. Why F-84 Thunderjet? - it seems to be an easy one to design, - I managed to buy a great book by Mr. Minoru with scale drawings of F-84G and some other American jets. - the real F-84 had a significant impact on what was going over Korea, but unfortunately got overshadowed by famous F-86 Sabre / MiG-15 duo. At the moment the fuselage is all developed. (Currently I am battling with canopy. as we speak) kind regards Cybermac |

Hello gents,
One of the discoveries I made doing the research about F-84 Tunderjet is that there were 3 different types of the exhaust pipe covers. F-84E (Block 1 -20) - wide & long one (oval cross-section, F-84E (Block 25 - 25) - long one (circular cross-section), F-84G - short with circular cross-section. Funny enough none of the F-84 books, articles I found says anything about that. Even the 'other media' models aren't up to scratch with that!??) For now I got the 'G' one, but I will do all of them Please see the photos below kind regards Cybermac |

Hello gents,
I just got developed the shape for the canopy fitting today. Next step will be the airfoil shape to mark the wing-fuselage connection. After that I can glue together some segments to start testing the canopy and wing fitting. kind regards Cybermac |

I was wondering how come Republic choosed this kind of canopy rather than buch cleaner one piece like on P-51 ,P-47 and later fighters. Looking at airframe drawings Republic tried very hard to make as light fighter as possible given one type of engine it used yet canopy seems over engineered. Am I missing something?
