3D Model from Photographs

Don't know if this is old news here, but Auodesk has something called "ImageModeler" which allows someone to take flat 2D photos and construct a 3D model. Here's a sample using Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye:

Creating a 3D model from photographs

Could be useful for paper model design.

Rhino is way far ahead of Autodesk with this. It is also a lot cheaper, and more intuitive. I don't even know if you can do this (below) trick in Autodesk.

This website has quite a few more tricks.

Hm. I remember hearing about a couple professors at COGS putting something like this together a few years back. They needed unedited images and information on the camera and lens set, but with that, they had a program that wouldn't just give you your 3d model, but real-world distances that were better than mapping-grade. If you had control points in a few shots, you could even orient it to the mapping grid.

I wonder if they sold it out to Autodesk instead of developing it themselves.
