Lloyd 40.16 Austro-Hungarian 1/50 WW1 Prototype
Hi Folks
Well, after playing with a couple of prototypes from the lost eagles books from Roman I think this one is going to be the first to be finished. First, I have to say: Thanks Roman Kampflieger for write the book about design: Book World War I Card Model Design a Step by Step Guide by der Kampfflieger - ECardmodels.com Shop That was a good starting point, I've been some experience with my pulqui II previously but the book gives you a way to follow to design a model. Thanks a lot to Krychu74. He is helping me a lot in finish the model. Thanks to support me Krysiek Thanks to Ana for the tutorial about textures. Well, now about the model: As always I get attracted to an experimental aircraft with some odd feature: in this case the struts and the wing arrangement. This aircraft was developed in parallel with the 40.15 triplane ( another good candidate to model ). The idea was to give the pilot the best possible forward and downward view. I've got the data from the lost eagles vol. 2 from Roman. If you like prototypes from ww1 you've to get them. Here from Lloyd 40.16 the pictures:

Now, about the model and my path on design, here a render, I'm modeling something , not just talking :
First: Even the Romanīs book give you a complete path to design but I recommend you at least to learn the basics of the programs involved: Rhinoceros and CorelDraw. Both programs have a lot of features, and you can found new ways to use them, for example in Rhinoceros layers are wonderful to me. Layers works like in any other graphic program but in 3d. I use them to group inter-related parts. For example I have layers to: fuselage, wings , formers, etc. A lot of times you want to see just the fuselage or the formers. And when you finally have the model ready to unroll it's better to have some way to divide them. Here an example ( Sorry, layers names in spanish ) Thanks for reading Alcides

Looking forward to seeing this finished! And a tip of the hat to you for taking on a design like this, one that will give the WW1 modeler's community something TRULY new and unique.

Thanks Vyvern. I not aware of any kit available, except one for a flying balsa model. So I think is going to be unique for the paper modeling community.

Alcides, This looks great thus far. I look forward to seeing the finished product. These unusual aircraft make for some interesting subjects. Thank you for taking on this project.

I'd like to see how it came out and I don't see any further posts since 2009, have you put it aside or has the thread moved to another one? Looks like an interesting design. Swampfox |

Orazio, Jeff thanks for your words. I think could be a very original model when is done so here we go.
Swampfox, Sorry but I think you read wrongly the date my first post is 5/24/2010 not so long ago :D But back to the design is going well, you can see I've finished the unroll and coloring the parts : My advice here is to unroll carefully taking in account all the curves you need develop with the surface. At first I didn't pay attention and I ended switching Rhino/Corel a lot of times. I think the textures are looking well for a beginner as me: So maybe someone ( A bit crazy ) Could even to try to build the thing: I hope to have more soon. Regards Alcides
