Beetle Hot Rod
Lately i'm in to hot rods and i found this on the internet :
I've been looking at some free VW beetle models and started building them to see what it would look like. I prefered the blue one so I'm starting with chopping the roof. Chopped the roof (using ms paint) and did some inside body work. Garage closing down for now

That one was called "The Stink Bug". I've got several magazine articles about it. Nice work on your model, so far.

by the way, a Beetle body is complete without the fenders.
you would do better to make your body solid, don't have those large open areas where the wheels are located. you can't see it in those photos but behind the wheels is solid body reaching down to the floor pan...if its still a VW floor pan under there unless its some sort of tubular chassis?

Those gaps will be closed and i'm thinking about tubular chassis.
I think i will start with a easy solution to keep the model simple and press on to a more detailed version. To close the gaps i used the fenders inside out : It needs more work but i think i can do it.

Btw, I am using somebody else it's model for templates, does that mean i can't share this model without permission from the designer ?
just a question.

@ Triop: Yes, that's what it was named for. It was meant to be a Rat Rod Bug, thus the name.
As for the wheelwell area exposed by the absence of fenders, I believe this car used a pair of front fenders, cut down and reversed, to cover the inner well parts. In the rear, the engine was exposed from the sides. As for the chassis, the car used a standard mid-'60's VW pan, with an adapter mounted in place of the front beam which allowed the use of a '32 Ford front axle and transverse leaf spring with split wishbones. |
