Marinefährprahm Type D

I'm working on a MFP type D, a landing vessel used by the Germans. I've come quite a ways, but I'm stumped at how the turrets look. There are large cannons (which some sites state as 8.8cm FLAK), but I can't find any photo's of that gun with that shape of armour attached. Does someone have more information on this gun and/or designed a simple one that I can use as reference?

I haven't decided on a scale yet, but somewhere around 1:300 to 1:400 is preferred by me.

Isn't that a FLAK 88, the famous 'anti-tank' gun used by Rommel in North Africa, in fact used through out?

The model isn't designed for a boat, but it might help you.

Olli has one on his pages Olli's Papermodels?

The 88 was a multi purpose gun, produced in large quantities. I'm not too worried about the gun itself, as i might keep it very simple. I am more interested in the turret's armour shape.

Incidentally, in designing the MFP Type D, there is a more interesting development, the Artillery version. Basicly the same boat, but layed out like a battleship.

German Naval Guns, 1939-1945 - Google Books

This book would help a lot, but eep, pricey.

Hello Legion!

There are already three models of MFPs available, although rather different:
1) Wilhelmshavener Modell # 1247 as MFP 617 (nicknamed "Alles Gute") in 1/250 scale,
2) KMW² (via Alex Trujan # SC 713) Marinefährprahm Typ D also in 1/250 scale,
and 3) JSC # 030 as MFP F 866, in 1/400 scale, together with the heavy cruiser "Lützow" (formerly the pocket battleship "Deutschland").
The URL for the Wilhelmshaven papermodels is Papermodels, paper model, Paper Model, Cardmodels, Modelkits, Wilhelmshavener Modellbaubogen, Wilhelmshaven, Bastelbogen, Papiermodelle, Kartonmodellbau, Kartonmodelle, Architektur, Schiffe, Flugzeuge
The URL for the KMW² Models is Modellbau A. Trujan in Köln - KARTONMODELLBAU
The URL for the JSC papermodels is JSC - paper models ships vessels aircrafts architecture

Kind regards -
Papercaptain

Oh, thanks for those links, Papercaptain. The JSC one doesn't seem to have a loading bay though. And it seems that there is a rather large diversity in Type D's...

I think I'll go make the AFP version instead,

I'm looking forward to any of the types that you design. They are great looking vessels!

I have the Wilhelmshavener kit and it's rather crude.

It'd be crude in my version too, i'm still a beginning designer. Does that kit come with a loading area or is it just a box? The KMW2 kit has the loading area, but it's the Flak version.

The directions call it a "D" version. It has one gun tub forward.
