How do you create this part??
Hey all, I've scratched my head and design tested enough. Before I give up, I turn once again to the vast community of knowledge. Below is pictured the LCT, a Laser Communication Terminal that is flying on many kinds of satellites including one I'm designing now.
As you can see, the whole assembly is four intersecting segmented cylinders in two pairs. The outer pair rotates on one axis and inner on another allowing a wide range of motion and tracking. The second picture shows the assembly as it would be in space, covered with insulation and returned to its "home" position with its sensitive glass stowed. While I'd like to provide the uncovered option to allow the builder to position it open, I'm not against the easier option of a covered build if I can't get the scaling and assembly right. A complication is the scale. At 1:25 scale the cylinder's diameter is 8.5mm. Do you have any suggestions?

I don't remember exactly where I saw them, but I believe 'curufea' was the designer of some steampunk models and had some pipe elbows. That was on my now dead computer or I could do a better job of pointing you in the correct direction
How large is the final part? EDIT-- Each half looked something like this The pattern part

from https://digitalpipefitter.com/ Might do it for you. Doesn't print from the trial version, but for the sizes you want screen capture should be adequate to extract the shape. Elsewise if your using paper and pencil without a drawing board perhaps do it as shown at Parallel Line Development - Round Pipes BUT do it oversize and line things up on graph paper to keep things square - then scan and scale in a graphics program. |

Actually, that last one, combined with my first image, gives me a sound method to develop a project I am working on. I'm going to try it tonight
