Town Square
Here is another of those little vintage French dioramas I have been building. This one is different because I have been watching and listening to the Lord of the Rings deluxe DVD set which inspired me to try something a bit different.
The original scan I downloaded from the Pilpat's Flikr site on the internet is missing one page which means I needed to create additional elements to finish the scene. This included three buildings and several elements for the town square. So, I thought, why not just repaint the whole thing, which I did. As a result each building is comprised of several individual elements and represents a photo realistic rendition of the real thing. For the facing store fronts, I combined upper and lower elements to build one store. Each of the store fronts features movie posters or advertisements suitably sized. To populate the town square I added a juggler, an organ grinder and a stack of wine casks using images taken from Google Images all of which had to be precisely sized to the original plan. Each wine cask has a unique vinter's label. I repainted the town square itself with a cobblestone pattern. And a new center garden. The statue in the garden is a real statue suitably detailed for this model. I found a vintage French bus with passengers in B&W and repainted it. The horse drawn wagon in the rear is a replacement also taken from the internet. It's all printed at FedEx Express on 110lb semigloss cardstock...about $1.25 per sheet, less if you do it yourself. I have well over 35 hours of design and build time into the little thing that measures a mere 8 inches across the front of the base.

Great to see other modelers re-combining available materials
Very nice job on your diorama. This is my first post here, but was inspired to try and show what I had done in this same vein from models also available at Agence Eureka blog. She is the undisputed ruling Queen of Paper, always has such interesting esoteric vintage models.
