The Munsters!
This all started because I ran out of coloured ink in my trusted Epson. Black ink I have plenty and I was wondering what to build (can't afford a refill pack right now). Dave (airdave) just released his Koolwheelz accessory pack for the Munsters Coach and I thought why not. The show aired originally in black and white so it would be only appropriate the do it in grayscale.
I started with the Mansion, no problems here. It builds up nicely and fairly quickly too. Next was the Coach. I didn't use all the parts (left out the bottom plate) - what a fold this thing is you all gotta give it a try some day. The stonewall in front of the house has some fancy ironwork on and I cut them out (you could also print those parts on some clear foil). In the original set there was also a small double gate (remember it squeaking in the wind) and over it an arch. Those parts are not included in the kit so I made them myself. In the series there was a lot of vegetation on the lot the most prominent piece being the big dead tree. I made one bush too. And this is what I was aiming to accomplish: A Munsters shadow box. Nice builds and great presentation.
I think the BW enhances it, since as you said, it was broadcast (shot?) in BW. Thanks for sharing!

I like this a lot, Tappi, it's a nice reminder of my childhood.
When I was a kid, back in the 70's, I'd watch the Munsters on TV all of the time. For some reason I always liked Grandpa's basement laboratory. At the time, the thought of having a trap door in the floor was a really neat idea, I wished my house had one as well, but never the less it did not. (oh well) Your models are real beauties, the gray scale printing is awesome, just like the old TV show in black and white. Keep up the excellent work. I look forward to seeing your finished creation. |

What a stroke of brilliance! I'm looking forward to seeing your project come together. I liked the Munsters, but I loved the Addams family. I was 12 or 13 when it first aired, so I'm pretty sure Morticia had something to do with it. I, too, loved it when she spoke French.

Thanks for the feedback. The Munsters was one of the tv-shows I followed and is very dear to me. The others were Lost in Space and Thunderbirds. Still love them all. I'm sorry if I mislead you to think I was actually building a shadow box - I don't have enough thick cardboard to do so. So instead I just built the set for that one photo alone. The builds store much easier this way too. And I can always take them out play with my toy theatre. Tappi |

Just a couple of additional photos. Dave designed the kit to work in a forced perspective: the coach is bigger than the stonewall and the mansion itself. That's why I scaled the paper doll standees too. You can find the dolls from here.
All the additions work nicely on Dave's platform too. For the photo shoot I made my own base, I needed a bit more depth to it and I also wanted to elevate the mansion a bit to show it better in the photo. If I I someday get some thicker cardboard I'll get back to this and finish the lot as a proper shadow box. Tappi |

Great model - I was (and still am) a huge fan of the Munsters, and this is a fine tribute to the show. I believe the show was filmed in color, but broadcast in b&w because so few people actually owned color TVs at the time. As Herman might have said, "Very cool, daddy-o!"
