Black 8 - Desert 109
Dear PM’s
Having just completed a Halinski BF109, see link below: Desert Messerschmitt "Black 8". I decided I was going to make a diorama display stand for the finished model. I had a look around the local shops in the area at mirrors and picture frames and came up with a cheap frame from the local hardware store. https://www.dropbox.com/s/81c1zv8xmj...19.34.jpg?dl=0 I removed the stand from the back and I was left with a perfect stand for the diorama. https://www.dropbox.com/s/q3z5867r9w...29.45.jpg?dl=0 I next applied PVA glue to the stand and poured on some sand effect from the hobby store. https://www.dropbox.com/s/5aolrl03lv...48.34.jpg?dl=0 I next added some shrubbery and debris to give a good effect. https://www.dropbox.com/s/jwy74mnrdw...56.30.jpg?dl=0 I wanted some characters to give it further realism but had difficulty in acquiring Luftwaffe personnel in desert camo. I managed to find some desert tank crew figures which would have been dressed the same hence I selected them for the display. I chose two of the figures which were painted and put aside for the final assembly. https://www.dropbox.com/s/mjs3i1k245...05.58.jpg?dl=0 I came across a few pictures of desert 109’s trestle for gun harmonisation. With this in my mind I decided to enhance the diorama further, trestling the aft fuselage for harmonisation. I found a diagram which depicted the exact trestle. I made the trestle from 1mm card stock, gluing with PVA at the joints. I decided on a dark wood colour for the final finish. I noticed that the airframe was now well off the floor and decided to make some ladders to accompany the trestle. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ai7o2id1cw...24.09.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/hth0be3mmc...48.41.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/i7q6za0mb7...27.16.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/1kv9uoo2lw...53.02.jpg?dl=0 To finish the model I added the Keine Bombe (drop tank) underneath the fuselage as if it was about to be fitted. https://www.dropbox.com/s/10dp5fg5pr...13.42.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/0vp32uar66...22.08.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/k3pnitlo87...22.24.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/3lu7hmlwc7...22.41.jpg?dl=0 For all the pictures in this build follow this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/cy8d9ulz4...tpMLj0Pva?dl=0 Hope I've done the links correctly? The 109 was great by itself, now with the diorama you've really made it the icing on the cake.
