Our village shop - Englischer Krämerladen um 1900

My next project goes back a bit to the time when there were no supermarkets.

The beautiful model construction sheet "Our village shop" by Heinemann - London shows a fully equipped English general store around 1900.

With about 100 parts, the presentation is quite clear and simple.

This is a really nice model and I was curious as to its age, and the age of the subject.
Judging by the figure's clothing, I'm guessing its Victorian era?
But the model itself appears modern.
So I went searching.

Our Village Shop by Faith Jacques was published 1984.
When assembled the model stands 9" high by 12"wide and 7 ½" deep.
Folio 13" - 23" tall, 27 pages .

Faith Jacques was a children's book author and illustrator.
She passed away in 1997 at the age of 74.
Jacques illustrated the first British edition of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (1964).
And, she illustrated a set of Christmas Stamps for the UK in 1978.

Very surprised to see this model book appear, given its vintage.

Here's one I made earlier, in about 1988 I think; my daughter now aged 41, was given it as a present by a family friend and I made it up.

It has survived two house moves and various unwanted suggestions about chucking it away.

Very appealing model indeed, best wishes for its construction.

Hello everyone, I am pleased that my construction report has such a great response

To start, the base plate is glued onto two pieces of 1mm cardboard...the bottom of the shop.

The back wall inside ... and outside , the wall parts are printed on both sides .

Rear wall and base plate connected.

Now the left wall of the house... where I put the mailbox with 3 mm Finn cardboard on the outside.

The left wall is glued!

A flap is installed on the right-hand wall of the house, on which fruit and vegetables will later be offered.

This is a forerunner of the DRIVE IN, but with a bicycle, it seems to me.

I glue three times 1 mm gray cardboard into the gable for reinforcement.

A 3.5 mm cardboard strip is also installed on the rear wall at the top. This increases the stability considerably.
