Should be 1/48th scale, same as most of John Dell's models..

Thanx, Jeff. I plan on augmenting the machine with vacuum formed blisters and canopies.

You are most welcome!
Vac-formed parts will certainly add to the build. Jeff |

Double check
Hueydriver,
I built the FG Model 299 several years ago and at that time, John Dell mentioned to me that the nacelles were not correct on that model and that some day he would correct them. And yes, it was designed at 1:48. He recently mentioned to me that now that he's working on his B-17 SERIES, that he was going to finally get that correction made, or maybe they've been finished for a while. You might want to check with him to see if and when those corrections will be ready. If your going to "glass" it you might as well make sure its up to John's latest High standards. Swampfox

I built the 299 last year, it fits together very nicely. I changed out the engines to radials from another FG kit, and also changed the props to a self design/mash up that I got from someplace. There are pictures of it over on the FG site under my name/look what I built.
The onliest problem I had with it was figuring out where to put all the big pieces without damaging them before the final assembly. Beard |

That kit was done a while ago, when I was still a bit of a novice. I had used the Fiddlers Green B-17G as a guide and that model has several proportion issues which to Chip were not a concern as Fiddlers Green models are supposed to be more whimsical than accurate. The engine nacelles are too large. They should be 10% smaller. A revamped Model 299 and Y1B-17 are on the drawing board but I can’t say when I’ll get them released. That being said I have seen some excellent builds of this kit such as Swampfox’s and Burning Beard’s (I love what you did with the engines!). There was also someone who did a very nice build with silver card stock and put motors in the nacelles so the props would spin.

Thanks willygoat, that is the one I was thinking of. And you are right, it is a wonderful build!
Here is a photo of the re-vamped fuselage for the Model 299 and Y1B-17 that I'm working on. I re-did the nose glazing, the bomb aiming panel and re-worked the rear fuselage to give it a more correct tapering shape.
