Battling Knights
Here is the second model in the "Automata Trilogy"
This is another model by Keith Newstead and as you will see was commisioned by the national Gallery in London. It was inspired by one of their Paintings " The Battle of San Romano" The model stands about 18 inches tall and just under 7 inches wide. As you will see, it's a little more complicated than the "pig" but the instructions are fine and the build is quite straightforward. My only small critisism is that the card is a little too think. Some parts started to delaminate when being folded. Also it's a die cut kit.I have never been able to understand why kits are made this way - they still need tidying and cutting so why bother?. Despite this it was a bit of fun and I am always surprised at how the mechanics of automata are designed. A few years ago Keith retired and a replacement was needed to keep the made up model in the Gallery in working conition. Roger Pattenden AKA heritage models took on the job. This lead to other things and that will be revealed in the final episode ;-) Cheers Mike JJT. |

Neat! Looks like something from a medieval clock tower.
