Apatosaurus from Papercraft Canon Creative Park
On one of the pictures from 2009 International Paper Model Convention I saw the Canon's Apatosaurus model made by Ron Spencer (Old Troll). I couldn't help but had to make it!
To get rid of at least some bold black lines I am cutting on the inside side of the contour lines. Additionally I'm thinning the flaps (starting again from the inside side of the contour line. This way I loose lines and get smooth connections of parts - at the same time the flaps are easier to bend and glue. All tail parts were glued into tubes on touch - without a flap. First I didn't retouche the parts, but after a few parts I started to color the edges with Badab Black wash (Citadel paint) - it is a thin blackish acrylic paint - perfect for such jobs. As for now I have assembled tail and back legs - parts 1-28 of 54.

Wow, that's going to be one dig model.
So clean on the trimming and gluing. The extra time and effort to remove the black outline shows - really nice. >>>All tail parts were glued into tubes on touch - without a flap.<<< Do you mean the tail pieces a only glued directly on the edges?! Look forward to your next post. |

I have been very tempted by this series of dinosaurs by Canon, but I found the lines and folds to be too unnatural. It looks like you're doing a magnificent job at improving this model! Great stuff!

Some time has passed, and I'm ready to finish this dino.
First I've assembled the front part of the body up to the neck base Assembled the head and glued rings of neck segments together Connecting the neck segments - first to glue a bit, then the rest There are two neck segments left. Connecting neck with the body will be tricky...

Really nice model, the name "Apatosaurus" is also an extremely hilarious "Spanglish" word. It would be politically incorrect to post it but anyone who speaks Spanish has probably chuckled as I have.

Well, it would then be called Apestosaurus :P
If you are so big and walk through swamps then it sure gets mighty smelly...

First segment of the neck attached to the body
Glued strip of paper into the assembled neck and cut off flaps from the last segment The last segment is succesively, bit by bit attached to both assembled ends of the beast. And the apatosaurus is finally completed! Isn't it lovely?
