If they are mounted with any amount of rigidity at all (and I'm assuming they would be pretty well attached to the back plate) they would provide a lot of additional protection against slashes from the rear quarter without impeding the user. It doesn't take a lot of deflection to turn a hit into a miss.
I seem to recall Japanese mounted troops using something similar. Capes, or cape-like panels that filled with air as the rider rode, bother to make them seem larger, and to possibly catch or deflect arrows. Not feathers tho' just patterned silk. Both are really early examples of spaced armour I suppose. |

That is really a neat looking mode; carefull with that router they can be nasty little beasties that will turn and bite when least suspected.

Final photos;
I had to use a flash, but otherwise it wouldn't have an interesting background without me walking outside somewhere. The base I made from some random pine board laying around in my garage. I decided that heavier is better, and my worries of ripping the model were unfounded. I decided to skip the router work, so instead I just sanded all the corners down to a slight bevel (chamfer?) The center of gravity went from the knight's chest to the horse's knees :D Pretty untippable now! I couldn't decide on a colour for it, but I think black looks pretty good. Also, I finished maybe 2 weeks ago, but never got around to taking pictures. If you want any more photos for some reason I'll be glad to take them (I just have to wait for the batteries to recharge first) Any suggestions for future build threads? I plan on starting another one after my final exams.

Kuba,
We can not tell you what you should build, to each that is a personal decision. My standard answer to this would be, build whatever makes you happy or are interested in. Rick

That's funny, I was actually going to ask what to build, but then decided what you just said Rick!
Halinski Ka-50 is my choice :D I meant more of comments on how to make the thread; does anyone want to see more steps? Finer details? More commentary on building? That sort of thing. And thanks Dan.

The Werewolf is a mighty fine subject to tackle next.
your style is fine, it doesn't have be super detailed like Carl's dinghy(:p) build nor does it have to be like one of mine. Rick
