Where to cut the line?

Ok, so I'm the n00b, and here goes my question:

I have recently downloaded a free model from Fiddler's Green.

When printing it out, of course the parts have black lines around them. These lines have a certain thickness, and my question is:

Where exactly do I cut along the line? Inside, towards the colored part? In the middle along the line? Or outside, so that the line is retained with the actual part?

It may not be so critical with simple FG models etc., but when going to more complicated ones I have seen, where for example wing skins have to be matched without gap or overlay, this seems to be a problem... ? Maybe not?

Thanks for helping me out.

You are correct about fiddlers green models, when I started cardmodeling, I was confused by their design as well because the lines are extra bold, but for all models, try and cut in the exact center of the line (which is usually about as thick as the cut of the knife). Also, remember to color in tabs and edges/white areas with watercolors/acrylic paints with a pointed brush from the back of the card or some soft colored pencils so the white doesn't stand out against the surrounding areas.
the tips and tricks page of papermodelers is very helpful as well as the following sites:

In the middle is one option.

You'll probably want to cut the whole line off so it doesn't show on the completed model. This option works, but you want to do it first on the FG freebies to check part fit.

Some designers use a grey line instead to "hide" it when the model is done.

FG is not known for an extremely excellent fit, so the impact on the accuracy won't be great. I'd say cut where you want, but make sure you're consistent in doing so...

Thanks all for your inputs.

Yes, looking at the FG models, it seems it may not be so critical.

But I have looked at more sophisticated models as well (one plans to progress... with time...) and it seems that those might actually need "proper" cutting.

For example, skins that go over the "skeletons" of flying boats or ships look like they should have perfect fit as much as possible, while not necessarily displaying a black line. Same with ribs that go onto spars of wings, they often have a cut-out that (I assume) should snug-fit onto the spar.

I know I can always cut less and then more if it was not enough, but I just thought there is a "standard" way of doing things "like a pro"...

Thanks again everyone, any hint and tip is welcome.

Great forum!
