Thick card for bulkheads
Is there a commercial source for thick card, as it sometimes used for ship model bulkheads? I don't eat a lot of cereal and don't need to buy any shirts, so that's not an option.

Target Stores carries Wausau Bright White Premium Cardstock in 65 lb. weight for $4.17 for a 75 sheet package in 8.5 X 11 inch size. It is .008 in thickness so laminating 5 sheets gives you something very close to 1mm in thickness (.040 inch = 1.016mm). The stuff runs through my Epson RX7400 printer in single sheets just like ordinary paper. For laminating I use 3M Super 77 Multipurpose Adhesive in the spray can which does not affect ink jet type inks or paper. You can print out your kit parts on a single thickness then laminate away to arrive at the correct proportions.

Try an art/craft shop - but watch the prices!
Might pay to get inventive: boxes thrown out from shops, Old NCR pads, or photo envelopes. You could always try sorting through neighbours rubbish :D Tim |

Try these - I use the .040 acid-free, using whatever number of laminations is appropriate for the model in question. This is not the only outfit that sells such products.

Comic book shops (here) use really nice thick card inside a plastic sleeve to keep used comics flat while stored in rows in bins. The stuff here is smooth white on both sides.

My local Staples/Office Depot sells sheets of thick stiff card used as an insert in envelopes when shipping photographs. It comes in packs of 25 or 50.

See if a framing shop will let you have the leftover matteboard (or matboard) used in framing. Sometimes they will give that stuff away to save space in the dumpster. If they won't give it away maybe you can make a deal with them and get it cheap.

At the restaurant I work at, our dipping sauce cups come in boxes with cardboard between the layers. This stuff is a little thicker than 110lb cardstock, and just slighty smaller than 8x11. 3 sheets laminated together gets you 1mm. We just throw it away, but I started bringing it home to use in modelling, and ended up with 4 boxes full before I stopped. I thought about selling it, but I can't figure out how.
