Be selective
Guys
For those interested in the IAF magazine models, I would be really careful. The early ones were good. However in the late 70's and 80's so, the kits went totally amateur and thoughtless. Some were so bad that when I built them, I put them in a box. They were awful. I finally trashed them all. There was a later improvement like the B-2 or F-16D, but the magazine lost interest as Moshe stated. So be selective before you go nuts purchasing a whole set of them. I still have about 8 different models of them ( some multiples ), but will not build most of them. Here are some pics of the ones I am talking about. The good The OK and the bad/ugly These pics were taken a couple of years ago after many years in a box and just before they were trashed ( I did save the F-16D just for the memories). Isaac

To add a little to the story...
The bad kits were designed by two teenagers, who probably used only pencil, ruler and a compass. About 7-8 years ago, one of them found my store, contacted me and among other things, admitted that their designs were not good at all (to say the least) and that they had a lot of guts, to ask the I.A.F. magazine editor to publish their work. The magazine people didn't know and didn't care what they were publishing as long as it attracted potential subscribers. When they did not publish paper models, they used to add to every issue a poster of a different IAF aircraft, a key holder or a CD with, I already forgot, what was on it.
I will second Isaac's advice about checking in advance the quality of the kits.

Moshe
The list of models I am interested in were of top quality and accurate. These models were designed I'd say early 60's to the late 70's. It's a pity that the Magazine is not interested in reissuing them anymore but I guess expediency trups nostalgia.. Ahh well (sigh) |

I built the F-16I, F-100 and Another I can't remember but upscaled them to 1-36 and they all came out very nicely.
I see they have the CH-53 listed is that a worthwhile one to print out and build?

I usually do not post links,
But I came across this site a couple of years ago, and the links to the models did not work, found it again recently and the links now work. Please let me know if it is a legit site. If so then it has a few models worth D/Ling. the CH-53 is one of them as well as the AH-64. I have that one and some others in real booklet form. ???? ????? Regards, Jeff |

From my limited legal understanding of Israeli copyright laws, the downloading and printing these models are protected by the said law. There is a big however though these models were owned by the Israeli Airforce Magazine and perhaps the designers themselves. In some of these models there is a copyright anotation but the only copyright owner would have been the I.A.F.M. The site where these models were posted don't seem to have any connection with the magazine nor it's owner Amos Dor. Also, the fact that these models can be easilly downloaded with no warning or submitting a purchase price on each model, suggests that if Mr Dor wanted to protect his interests he would have made steps to prohibit such downloads. He also suggests that the copyright protection allows free use under the "Fair Use" clause, as long as the copyright owner is acknowledged. Wheather downloading and building these models are covered by the rair use clause or not i suspect one should seek legal advise. I remember being able to buy these models from hobby shops in Israel, however, I didn't bothered enquiering about it's legitimacies, but then I was 12-14 in the early 60's.

Another problem here, the building instructions are in Hebrew, although the translation of the text is covered by the "fair use" I suspect the translator would want his pound of flesh too.

Hello, Dragos!
If they are 1:1 reprints (scans/copies) of the IAF-Magazines, then they would be in format DIN A4 and as they mostly seem to be recolored Wilhelmshaven Models, their scale should be 1/50. Kind regards - Papercaptain |
