Rotating Turrets

I have seen it mentioned in ship builds that the turrets rotate. How would one attach a turret to a paper ship to allow it to rotate. I am sure it will once again be obvious once I know the answer but until then I have no clue.

Thank you in advance for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

Joe

the problem with ships that have longitudinal formers is you can't drill thru the hull without hitting the darn thing. the solution is to make a post on the deck with a rolled tube, glue it to the deck, then make a hole thru the bottom side of the turret, the turret spins on this tube.

Use Josh Buczynski's flat axle from the Sweet Robo model

I've used it for rotating engines in Sci Fi builds, rotating turrets on tanks, and turning front axle on a horse-drawn wagon. AND it is flat.

You can find it at Paper Poseables: Sweet Robo

Attach a ring inside the turret. Attach a ring with a slightly smaller diameter onto the deck where the turret goes. Slip the ring inside the turret over the ring on the deck. Rotate the turret. When the ship capsizes the turret will fall off, leaving a trail on the bottom of the ocean or lake that the people searching for the shipwreck can follow. TV documentary will not be far behind.

Nice one Doug.

But the best option with a paper model since the turrets normally only need to be positioned, not worked.

Thanks for the education on how rotating turrets are done on paper models. Doug, I am with you and maybe we can get the Discovery Channel or National Geographic to fund the exploration and cover all the costs.

I actually got the idea about the rings from building a Maser Canon paper model that Shunichi Makino offers. It has a rotating part to aim the canon at Godzilla.
The larger ring is on the deck of the vehicle instead of being on the rotating part. You can even elevate the thing.

Here is the source of the paper model:
SF Paper Craft Gallery

Goto SciFi OriginalCraft under Site Menu at the left. Scroll down a bit to get to the Maser Canon and click on the Japanese character link below the name. It will take you to a download page.
