Olde Spanish paper toy steam engine kit build

I found this old kit on this forum, it may typically be printed on 11x17 but my print shop talked me into 13x19 as they said it was there "best" grade of cardstock. It is intended to be powered by sand poured down the chimney and the stream of sand powers a water wheel hidden inside the firehouse to spin the model engine.

The big enlargement:

On the left side is a drawing of the completed steam engine.

As this is my Very first time working with 100# grade cardstock, I started with the water wheel turbine, it only needs to be structural so some cosmetic flaws are no big deal here. The old artwork is not as precision as modern kits and also I made some errors joining the 2 half so my wheel wobbled side to side about .050 this would function but I simply opened up the axle holes and glued a square on the side taking some care to center well.

Very interesting model and well done with the mod on the wheel.

I have got this model and always wanted to make it but have never got around to it. So, I will be watching your build with interest!

Here I have made up a simple test stand to see if my aquarium pump is strong enough to power the turbine, much to my satisfaction the trued up turbine spooled up nicely on the tiny jet of air pressure. This will be much cleaner power than sand.
The test axle is a sewing needle.

Parts I have built so far, the turbine, sand funnel, chimney and chimney base. Next to the paper chimney is a metal chimney off a German Wilesco D20 size steam engine, the paper one is much larger printed at this scale.

The base turned out nearly 9 and 1/2 inches, the very talented thumb dog forum member built this and added mat board to reinforce, this is my first time working with mat board but it is impressive strength!
I was able to place a full gallon of milk on the base without fear of stress after all the mat board work. This weight is aprox 8.6 lbs
