You can get steel 'piano' or 'music' wire from many hobby shops. K&S is the most common (if not only) brand. 1mm = 0.39, .8 is 0.32 and the .3 would be 0.12.

You can also get brass wire in similar sizes, and 'floral wire (a soft malleable iron) is also available at many craft stores

Check out some electrical supply stores. According to the AWG chart:

18 gauge is 1.02362 mm
19 gauge is 0.91186 mm
20 gauge is 0.812 mm
21 gauge is 0.7239 mm
28 gauge is 0.32004 mm
29 gauge is 0.28702 mm

If you have a local hobby shop or hardware store that carries K&S products they will be in english. Here's some very rough equivelents.
1mm=.040
.8mm=.030
.3mm=.010

while i'm not sure of gauge/sizes, i got a bunch of guitar "string" on e-bay for a good price and it works better for me in most applications than floral wire.

Also at the craft stores check out the beading sections, they have spools of wire in several guages and finishes.
