USS Essex (ACW)

Next up on the project list is the Civila War USS Essex. Again, updates will only be for major milestone until the test build starts. At that time, I will start a new thread and give a blow by blow account.

As you can see, the USS Essex photos show the basic structure is complete. Now for he details and final part generation.

I wish I had all the time in the world for building models! I'm slowly working on the James River squadron and now youse design guys are putting together the Mississippi fleet. I received Mr. Lincoln's Brown Water Navy for Christmas but I really, really need to put that new temptation on the back burner!!!

Not yet! My friend is making a Cairo. I'll get some pictures when it's done. Not had a lot of time with Christmas etc!

I know the feeling. I wish I could give up work and do this full time. Then if I went without sleep I could get done all that I want to!!

Progress report. Started enerating the parts pages. Have the hull formers and keels output as final parts. Have the upper casement formers output as final parts. Working on the final print of the upper casement stringers. Just started unfolding the hull covering, adding detail to and unfolding of casement armor next.

On the ligher side, was anyone else struck by the simularity of the USS Essex to a Star Trek Shuttle in photo #4 of my first post.

I will keep you updated. OOPS, I ment to post #4 here. So here it is.

I am back (not really). For all you guys that are waiting on the Essex, from time to time I have to go feed the bulldog. I have to take time off from the fun stuff and go take care of the beast. The bulldog got all out of shape and I had to leave everything and take care of him. I have been out of town since the last post and just passing througn home now. The bulldog is is still snarly, but I am getting him calmed down. All should be good after this weekend and I will be home to work on the Essex.

As we continue the ongoing USS ESSEX saga, let us return to yesteryear and review where we were. The hull keels and bulkheads were finished, output and scaled to correct size. The casement stringers were finished, output and scaled to correct size.

Picking that up, the hull was unfolded (Figures 9 & 10) output (Figures 11 & 12). Notice the cuviture of the main deck which forms the top of the hull. This cuviture forces a different construction and design process on us. Stay tuned for the test build to see the difference. The red lower hull object in Figure 12 is to help see where certain curves are and have nothing to do with later painting and texturing.

The casement follows!
