Jim -- I really do intend to build some of these models and would be proud to have pics of my models on the site. we'll see -- I do not have a very good track record of actually completing models -- still have the DGA Christmas GA-8 under construction! But the fact that you built three of the Beavers over the weekend gives me hope that I can get at least one put together soon after completing the furshlugginer Hampden and before getting decisively engaged with the GreMir Shoki (or Hayabusa -- I'm wavering).

I made the acquaintance of the M37 in Korea in 1962, where I was a rifle platoon leader in the 2d Battle Group, 12th Cav, 1st Cav Div (anybody here remember the Pentomic Army?). The Weapons Platoon carried the 81mm mortars in M37s. After six months with the platoon, I was brought up to the BG headquarters and made the S3(Air), which meant I got a jeep and was sent to air observer school to learn how to adjust artillery from the back seat of an L-19 and made weekly photo-recon flights along the south tape of the DMZ. Much fun, and they even paid me to do it!

Wow! Those are an inspiration.

I HAVE to work on the Hampden today, but I have printed out L-20 51-6266 and the M-37 3/4-ton (and three Trotskiy Ki-43s) -- just to look at.

Don,
I have to fess up... I took a long weekend (on Friday morning I had a medical test done and I took the rest of the day off). On the other hand, I have now completed my 4th beaver.

I have built so many of these that I have it down to a science. I commonly give them away as greeting cards

Do any of the ladies complain that upon display they have random gentlemen telling them 'nice Beaver'?

Good looking models

Outstanding, Jim!

Are the wings straight from the box, or do you insert spars?

Spars??!! Spars!! We don't need no stinking spars!:D

No I believe -Jim builds 'em as he designed 'em..........at least I've never had to use any extra support.

And I am joking on the quote..................

Dan -- You are, of course, referring to the Regency-era top hat? Don

Don,

As John said, the wings do not need spars. I build the kit "straight out of the box". I cut the slits for the wing struts directly in the middle of the little rectangle on the undersides of the wings and I use the length of struts to set the dihedral. The beaver is an externally braced monoplane, so the kit, like the real thing depends on the struts to hold the wings.

I should do a pictoral build thread for the beaver to show how I build them. I think that build threads are great fun, and come to think of it, it is seldom that someone does such for a simple model. It would probably be good for some of the newer modelers on the forum.
