Cessna T-50 - "only" a drawing...
... but what a drawing!
It is Mike James' Cessna T-50 "Bobcat" project, and you can watch it develop from start to finish here. For me, it was good for at least an hour of drooling. The basic approach is much like Sketchup, but Mike James uses another Mac/PC software, namely Luxology's "modo". And the stuff he accomplishes is much beyond Sketchup, good as that software may still be for making paper models. At times during the tale, the author makes a switch between an actual restoration of a T-50 going on, and the model he is drawing in 3D. It is true that he really does that, but here I was trying to cheat you. Both images are of Mike James' 3D model. Did you get carried away for just a moment there, by the coffee machine? Now, go drool on your own. There are 15 web pages worth of it here. Leif PS. I ended up here by a rather unlikely route, namely by searching for what a Hamilton Standard Constant Speed propeller really looked like, and how it worked. And the Cessna T-50 obviously had two of those, very beautifully rendered by Mike James. |

Ultimate Form of Modeling...,
Hi Leif,
Thanks for the heads up. Mike James work boarders on being aviation archaeology, recreating a vitual replica of the venerable T-50 Bobcat. It's a pleasure to surf his site and a great for him to advertise his wares. Luxology's Modo is gaining a fare number of adherents. It is quickly becoming the most popular polygon modeler available after a somewhat rocky start. Bien Cordialement, +Gil |

Thank you for showing Sky King's airplane. There was a paper model available a short while back, but I cannot remember the source. There was also a web site for the Sky King TV show.

WOW! I guess I really need to start learning one of these 3d programs althought I don't think I'll ever live long enought to get to the level of these drawings.

I would have liked to have seen a real picture of the plane he is building. As far as software goes, don't learn or go crazy about learning any software unless it can generate dimensions and generate enough export file extensions to use on different programs. The world of C.G. animation has probably 100,000 applicants for every job that opens up, and there are some pretty magnificent experts of this forum who will tell you the same thing, about employment, that is. Those are some nice rendering's. They remind me of Microsoft Flight Simulator X. They are nice, but don't seem to have broken any ground.
At $1000 dollars, you get more bang for the buck with other programs that are already developed and have more plug-ins, and free tutorials. You guys should try Microsoft's Flight Simulator X. You can download 100's of planes like this for free, and virtually fly them. Still, would have like to have seen the real craft, instead of just renderings. I wonder if Modo unfolds?.....nope, took a while to read that on it's main forum. |

Lad-n-Dad has a model of Songbird here
1/48 Cessna T-50 Songbird Paper Model - ECardmodels.com Shop - Downloadable models and crafts for Leif, thank you for the link. Scale Aircraft Modeler magazine had a story about the two Songbirds with a screen cap of the Bobcat project, but I couldn't find it. Wayne |

Hello Leif, thanks Gil,
for me - the works of Mark Miller more than high above my efforts on our hobby. But it's nice to enjoy the world of other people and see what they invest in the creating of models or realizes their phantasies ... I cut out, form and glue together - that's enough for me and my brain ... With lovely greetings the Wilfried |
