During WWII, high school students made solid wood recognition models of Allied and Axis airplanes.
The goal was to produce 500,000 of these recognition models for the military. My uncle remembers making these planes when he was a teenager. Free Flight Web Ring |

The NSFK german authorities distributing this "propaganda" toy glider:
I possess the same on .PDF with higher definition. I might place it in download, but first, I ask you to respond if there are reasons not to do this... matt77 |

Here are some photos of wartime German paper ID models I came across several years ago. I’m not sure if the Elefant or the Panther (which is very nice) are paper. It would be great to get reproductions of these kits. Those boys really want to get their hands on that Tiger. I hope they all survived the war.

Francesc Lopez Sala has had a museum exhibition of his collection of Spanish Civil War paper models which were issued by both sides of the conflict. You can see a news report on the exhibit here. Los recortables de la Guerra Civil exploran Barcelona 20090617 (Versión) - YouTube
They also produced a beautiful catalog. |

Dear Matt:
I for one would like to see the glider as a pdf file both for historical interest and for the glider interest. Thanks, MILES |

Facsimiles of the NSFK aircraft models were available in the early 1990s via a classified advertisement in Jet&Prop and Fluzgzeug magazines in Germany. They were inexpensive, but came with a warning that, as facsimiles, they displayed Nazi symbols of the era - apparently it was legal, but frowned upon; if you notice, the NSFK Angel on the illustrations linked, has a little toothbrush moustache... It might be that things have been tightened up since, taking them off the market.
I ordered a copy of the AW Whitley, which I should still have somewhere, if it survived the move to New Zealand. It was quite good, and I meant to order more, but left Germany soon after. Cheers, Mike |
