Interesting bit of knowledge Greg.

The interesting thing about MT, they actually had blog entries about paper cars, Zio's '32 Deuce Coupes, and other sites.

I guess we need to do a massive push from the Hobby end of things, to the publisher, to see if they could reissue some of those models

So far we know that Motor Trend, back in the early 70's released some 6 models, two of which, the Corvette 4 Rotor, and the Mercedes C-111(both built by Michael Dazzo), and the Hot Rod van, and now according to Greg, the models in the CARtoons magazine.

Now the question is, does anyone have a good contact with Petersen Publishing which we could pump for information and potential reissues

I would love to see an image or two showing how those wheels go together to produce the very smooth tread on Rick's model.

There was a cut out van model in the July 1976 CARtoons magazine. Could it be the same one?

One note of caution,

The Left Inner Wheel cover, the axle slot is wrong, if you line the wheel up with the part on the van, the slot will be at a 45 degree angel to the slot in the wheel on the van part.

I glued the piece, and just flipped it over, and cut out the overlapping pieces.

Rick

Think maybe I would separate the exhaust form the body too.

Thanks for the tip on the left front inner wheel cover, Rick. I haven't started to build yet, so I flipped the piece and will print another. I think I'm going to print the body again, too. I've recolored the roof top with the dark blue color - it shows off the poster much better. Are you scoring the body (other than the tabs, of course), to aid in forming it? If so, are you scoring straight lines, or are you following the curved lines as drawn? I'd like to follow the curved body lines, but experience and instinct are telling me to score straight across.

Unfortunately Petersen Publishing as an entity doesn't exist anymore. They were bought out by Primedia and most of the business relocated to Florida or the dumpster. A lot of the titles had been going downhill anyway and they went off the cliff at the point in my opinion. I look at a mid 50's Motor Trend vs a current one and only improvement is color printing and that's mainly the ads, and the ads, and more ads. Of course me getting old might have a bit to do with that also. Rather read about upping the horsepower in a supercharged 57 Ford over changing the computer chip in a new jellybean to make the dashboard lights flash different colors to the bass thump. Yeah, I'm getting old.
