More Small Scale Japanese Buildings
"Papermau" recently reposted the Sanda Sakamoto website with its collection of Japanese buildings.
The Sakamoto website has been reorganized since my last visit, and the new format makes it much easier to see what buildings are currently available for download, as well as displaying on a single page all the buildings he has designed and either previously released or intends to release in the future. In the past Sakamoto-san has rotated the buildings available for download, so it is worth revisiting the site from time to time, in order to see if there are new offerings. The farm buildings and small down buildings are representative of Japanese architectural styles, ranging from traditional farm house styling to the god-awful soulless boxy mass produced prefabs that characterized the post war and boom period. It would be fun to slip one or two of these buildings into a model railroad of an otherwise mid-western scene, and see if visitors notice them. Here is the index page, punch the buttons and see where you end up, the site is easy to navigate. ペーパークラフトN http://www.eonet.ne.jp/~sanda-sakamoto/index.html |

Young Woman in Kimono
A young presumably unmarried woman (her sleeves are very long) in a pretty kimono. The figure is macrocephalic.

Urashima Taro and Otohime and Turtle
While visiting "papermau" I saw that he had a new link to a monkey couple in formal Japanese clothing.
http://papermau.blogspot.com/2016/07/2016s-year-of-monkey-monkey-kun-and.html or http://bocchinokamiasobi.web.fc2.com/details5001089.html I looked around and found (Princess) Otohime and Taro Urashima. http://bocchinokamiasobi.web.fc2.com/details5001088.html Explore bocchinokamiasobi web site and find many other models. Learn all about Taro Urashima and why it pays to be nice to turtles and the importance of keeping promises: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urashima_Tar%C5%8D and http://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/72/japanese-fairy-tales/4881/the-story-of-urashima-taro-the-fisher-lad/ |

Tamatebako - Impossible Magic Treasure Box
Otohime (see previous post) gave Urashima Taro a Magic box, a Tamatebako, with instructions to never never never open it.
The Tamatebako is a very special origami box that can be opened from any side but only once since it falls apart and cannot be put back together again. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tamatebako (Many thanks to Mauther for the Saro Kun and Saro Chan post that led to discovering the Tamatebako.) |
