The beetle does not have a lot of pages, but I thought a couple of the parts were devilishly difficult to make .

That indescribable thing turns out to be a representation of a clay figure excavated from an archaeological site.

Here is a website with some information.
Clay figures Cultural Heritage

Here is a translation of the information on that site:
Quote:
Origin: Kami Kurokoma Excavated Misaka-cho, Fubuki-shi, Yamanashi Prefecture
Jomon period (middle) · 3000-2000 before
Earthen
1 piece
A gesture that acts as in this example is called an elephant + figure + a clay figurine called a "pose clay figurine". On the face of a wildcat-like face + embroidering +, a line of engraving is applied around the eyes, cheeks + cheeks + mouth, as if it were a tattoo + drawing +. This example lacks the breast representation of many clay figurines, but the left hand holding the chest is represented with three fingers.
I found that site and some others by searching:

黒駒の土偶

The above shows up in Japanese characters on my system, I do not know if it displays as random characters and symbols on others'.

Asahikawa City is in Hokkaido, the city government probably provided the paper models to give its residents something to do in winter when their houses are buried by snow.

Samurai Armor and Storage Box

Rick was kind enough to put a model I submitted into the Dolls and Figurines section of "Downloads".
http://www.papermodelers.com/forum/v...p?categoryid=5
It is a a single page wood block print of a Samurai Armor, most likely intended as a Boy's Day gift or for display on Boys Day. The model includes a complete armor, and a storage box. When the armor is not inside the box, the box can be used as a display stand.
I uploaded zip file with a copy of the 150 year old woodblock print and my attempt to restore it to its original colors.
A while back I posted a link to a similar model, but that one had a missing edge so some of the parts were incomplete, the one just uploaded is complete and not bad looking considering the original is a 150 year old print on poor quality paper. I have seen another paper model of a samurai armor from about the same period, so this type of model must have been a popular item.
The paper armors must have been more affordable than some of the metal and silk lacing Boy's Day miniature armors that are currently for sale.
