I was watching a Japanese TV show about a new-on-the job OL who bonds with her co-workers with beer and food and noticed that fruit sandwiches seem to be a popular item with young Japanese working women.
Maybe between paper models, someone here will be brave enough to try to make and eat one. I have not seen any stores or restaurants offering them here in my corner of the MidWest, so I don't know if I am missing a good thing.
There are many web sites with fruit sandwich recipes, but this page had instructions for the most elaborate looking fruit/flower sandwiches.

With fruit sandwiches, you have to remember that Japanese sandwich bread is this very white, sweet spongy stuff that's well on the way to being cake anyway. So you have the cream cheese filling with the cut fruit making pretty patterns, and it's a bit like cheesecake.

AH HA. Thanks for the insight. I looked on internet and found that cream cheese vegetable sandwich is a thing, so it would to be too outrageous to substitute fruit for the vegetables. And a fruit sandwich would be like a cheese cake only with fruit inside rather than on top.
