1:48 15cm schwere Feldhaubitze 13
A new model from Wayne McCullough. Arguably the best gun fielded by the
german Army in WW1 - the 15cm schwere Feldhaubitze 13 [Heavy Field Howitzer Model 1913]. It was superior to similar Allied guns in the early part of the war and after upgrade remained competitive with similar new Allied guns until the end. Some even saw service in WW2. Wayne has provided 3 camouflage schemes - Dapple, Buntfarben (late war striped scheme), Feldgrau (all early war German guns were grey-green) and a white model for anyone who wants to recolour the model. The Ottoman Army used the sFH13s in Palestine and these were painted a pale sand colour - anyone who wants to try this ask me for some images of an original Ottoman gun which has not been repainted since WW1. Both the early L/14 barrel and receiver and the later longer L/17 barrel and receiver are modelled. Usual place: Landships II Regards, Charlie |

There is a 1918 Rheinmetall built sFH13 lang (L/17 barrel) about 25km away from my place. You can get up close to the gun and the impression is that it's big - the top of the gun shield is about 2.5m (8 feet) high. It looks as if it would be very heavy but the data says it only weighed about 2200kg.
Wayne has also done a model of the Uberlandwagen which was used (rarely) as a tow vehicle for the sFH 13. GPM have released a 1:25 model of the French equivalent the Canon de 155mm C Mle 1917 Schneider. The French howitzer saw service well into WW2 with the French, German and US armies. Charlie |
