Legitimate source for NASA B-52 testbed (possible GPM repaint)?
Hello all,
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this question but it's the closest match I could find. A while ago (way before I joined this forum) I was hunting around for models that I'd be interested in building and stumbled across this: This model- of NASA's modified B52 testbed for the hypersonic X-15- immediately caught my eye. Unfortunately, as you can see from the photo, the only source I could find for this model comes from Alice papermodel (notorious pirate site). No other source material seems to exist on Google search. Taking a close look at the model, it looks like it's just a recolor of GPM no.066... ...from the original Vietnam camo to a NASA scheme. Although I'm skeptical if such a recolor was even made/published legitimately, since every search ties back to Alice. If a legitimate publication even exists for the model and someone here is able to find it, I'd greatly appreciate if you could share it with me. Thanks! -theOshkoshModeler |

I think that Fiddlersgreen have a B-52 testbed for X15:

That was my first assumption as well, but you can see an actual cockpit interior inside the nose very similar to that of GPM's B-52. As far as I can tell based off of photos of FG models, they usually don't put effort into a cockpit interior (partially because they work with such small scales to where an interior would be highly impractical).
Taking a close look at the parts layout, especially at the engines, they're a lot smoother than FG's B-52. FG only uses 3 parts for each engine, but this one looks a lot more like GPM's approach with 7 parts covering both engines. Also, here's two more photos for everyone else if it helps to narrow down (not to give Alice more credit than they deserve, but these ones include other angles and the attached X-15 underneath the starboard wing). |

b52 testbed.
An actual testbed B52 is on display at the Pima Aircraft Museum, located across the hi-way from the Air Force Aircraft storage and Graveyard near Pheonix, Az.

Pima has "Balls 3" in their inventory. "Balls 8" is on display at the north gate of Edwards AFB.
