Daughter-in-Law Judy gave me the Paper Pilot as a gift last Christmas. I haven't tried any of the builds yet, but I liked the quality of the book and the info therein.

Phil - I would not say that the artwork is ultra-realistic, but not cartoonish, either. As Rick pointed out, the proportions and coloring of the aircraft appear to be correct and the overall effect is pleasing.

A question for anyone who has Paper Pilot (or Paper Captain)...are the models in a consistent scale, or are they arranged in whatever size allows them to best fit the page (which I guess is more likely)? If the latter, are the scales at least stated in print? I guess you could find out pretty easily by just measuring the completed model.

Rick- have you built any of them yet?

I asked my wife for "Paper Captain" for Christmas.

They are not a constant scale, most aircraft and some of the ships are one page models, the others span multiple pages.

it is almost a pity to "ruin" the book by doing a model
whish there were backups to the sides so i wouldn't have to use them
i have to gain more experience before i try one of these on
got all 3 books, the pilot, the captain and the astronaut
but i will try them some day

That's what a scanner and printer are for! Scan the model in, clean it up if you choose/need to, then print out on your favorite card stock. You can build the model and leave the original in the book with all the info intact.

I just added the three books plus a couple other "Cut & Assemble" books to my Amazon Wish List. Next big thing is Christmas (birthday was in June) so I guess I'm waiting.

I'd love to see some of the builds, or even a partial scan or photo of the book's models, just to see the potential build quality.

good thought if it didn't ruin the book, as it is very difficult to scan them properly without removing them from the book, and then you risk pieces falling off the sides in the process as some are barely sticking to the page *alas

I just got a copy of "Paper Captain" at B&N marked down to $9.99 from the original $25.00.

Does anybody have any photos of completed models from the book?

Not yet but I will have shortly.

I wouldn't mind getting a second copy; I'll have to look for that.
