Paper Pilot & Paper Captain

Hi All,

I just received from Amazon, the Paper Pilot and Paper Captain books.

goney3 first alerted us to the Paper Pilot book here Paper Pilot: The Paper Airplane Pilot's Manual

and the Paper Captain book was released in 2008, you can see Amazon's entry here Amazon.com: Paper Captain: The Paper Boat Captain's Manual: Juliette Cezzar, W.J. Rear Admiral Jr Holland: Books

Both books are hefty tomes, 144 pages of History, Science, Technology, and stats of each of the included models.

The Paper Pilot book has 24 aircraft
The Spitfire, Zero, P-38, Mustang, Corsair, B-29, Mig-15, B-52, U-2, Vulcan, F-4 Phantom, XB-70 Valkyrie, Sr-71, AV-8B Harrier, F-15 Eagle, A-10, F-16, Tornado, F/A-18, F-117, B-1, C-17, B-2, and the F-22 Raptor

The book plate interesting mentions that 14 of the models were designed by Chip Fyn and Fiddler's Green.
but no page numbers are given.

The cover to the book is this

The Paper Captain book has 20 ship models
The Sovereign of the Seas, HMS Victory, USS Constitution, USS Monitor, CSS Virginia, U-117 Unterseeboot, SS Normandie, USS Gato(SS-212), USS Iowa (BB-61), Charles McAllister Tugboat, Bathyscaphe Trieste, USS Nautilus (SSN-171), Bluebird K7, USS Enterprise (CVN-65), Mystic (DSRV-1), Guppy 13, Sea Shadow (IX-529), Knock Nevis, RMS Queen Mary 2, and the Emma Maersk.

No information is given on who designed the models.

The cover to the books is this

All the models in both books are die cut, with all the parts still attached to the page, you will need to use a knife to separate the parts from the sheets.

Most models are one page models, some span multiple pages, like the Enterprise and Emma Maersk, which include a sheet for aircraft and containers respectively.

The sheets for the models are perforated so you can rip/cut them out of the book.

Both books were released by Universe Publishing, a division of Rizzoli USA, www.rizzoliusa.com

Rick

This is great! Thanks Rick. I'd seen the airplane book a few years back in a Barnes & Noble, but that was before I was into paper models. I thought it was neat but didn't buy it and then couldn't find it again.

I'd also like to see some pics of the boats.

Hey Phil,

the artwork in both books are great, the planes have the correct insignias, and current paint schemes

the ships are awesome, the Bluebird is blue, and has the correct badges on it, and the Emma Maersk even has individual containers
even the blue hull which is standard on every Maersk Container ship

Excellent! I'd love to see your built-ups, especially of the ship models! Thanks for the heads-up on this.

There is a book at Barnes and Noble on space ships. It have the things for the Moon Launch, Sky Lab, the Shuttle, etc. I think there is a Russian rocket. They have it on the table with the moon anniversary books. They are die cut. The first part of the book it is history and nice historical photos. And the back of the book is the models.
