Space Shuttle Discovery YG Model in 1:33

How obsessed do you have to be to want to build such a big cardboard model?
It won't be quite as big as the SATURN V from the same publisher and in the same scale.
Total height only 169 cm.
The model designed by Leonid Scherkaschin appealed to me right from the start,
when I first saw it illustrated by Slawomir.
I then also treated myself to the corresponding set of laser-cut parts.

A few days ago the big package arrived by mail.
The whole package is quite a big chunk.
Hopefully the pictures give some impression of the size of the delivery.
Most of the Lasercatte parts are cut from 1mm thick cardboard.
Three sides are made of 2mm cardboard
Hopefully these thicknesses are sufficient for the enormous size of the parts.
The normal cardboard for the parts makes a solid and high quality impression at first sight. solid and high quality impression.

I hope that the many good reports about the builder will also be reflected in this
monster model.

I will start building the model only after completing my SE 5a.

I can only imagine what this monster set you back. The shipping costs alone must be crazy.

Thank you for the detailed description of the template model.
In the next future I intend to buy two other YG-Model models, just the Saturn V and Falcon-9 v1.2.
Really big monsters of beauty!

Wow, Adolf, what a unique behemoth of a model! Incredible. And seeing the print quality, worth the price, I think/I hope. (is it A4?) This really will be worth the watch. Hope you will show the building progress too and not just the finished model. I am very interested! Good luck with the build!

Good Googlymuck!

Now that's big! I recall an old Monogram 1/72 scale plastic kit I had a a kid. That was big!

And you are really dedicated to spend that much. That would almost fill a tank of most cars here in the US (the monetary cost; not the paper from the model, I should clarify).

I will follow this build with interest.

At the moment filling my little 75 litre Volvo 960 tank wil set me back about 140 euros in here The Netherlands, (€1,98 per liter is no exception) so that's quite close already.
(and the six cylinder engine will pump it through in no time...)

Huge. At 1/33rd scale, the Shuttle Stack should be 5.6 feet (170.6cm) tall. The Orbiter would be 3.7 feet (112.7cm long and have a wingspan of 2.4 feet (73.1cm).

Aside from adequate display space, my concern would be that 1/33rd scale demands a lot of detail, particularly with a vehicle as textured as the Orbiter or the External Tank.

It'll be a build well worth watching. Can't wait to see it!
