No. Most local clubs to not require National membership to be a part of the club.

Depending on your political proclivities, you can join IPMS/UK and still be regarded as a member in good standing anywhere in the world. You will receive their publication. If you join IPMS/USA, you receive our publication. IPMS/UK is the Daddy Rabbit of all IPMS chapters worldwide; they invented the idea and built it up.

Well, now that's the rub, isn't it? The P stands for plastic, but everyone welcomes any modeling material. The trick is to build a contest model to the contest standard regardless of the medium. However, unlike their Colonial counterparts, it's my understanding that IPMS contests in the UK and Ireland are more like "shows" than contests. This means those who come to display are as welcome as those who come to compete. I'm a competitor, not a displayer. But, were I the latter, I would also display some unbuilt kits, namely printed sheets, to introduce casual viewers to the art of paper modeling! Drink a pint for me! Saol sona!

Chris Gutzmer started the ball rolling, and knowing his desire to raise awareness of paper modeling among the modeling community in general, I would imagine the goal of the group is just that. To whit, start submitting your photos and articles to the IPMS/USA JOurnal magazine for publication. I have done so with my Hunley build and have submitted several photos of other paper models....none yet published. But, in the most recent issue of the Journal, you'll see a couple of my photos in the Member's Gallery. As far as SIGs go, with the exception of the SubCommittee, PM is the most organized and active. In my posts, I have been urging paper modelers to get active in IPMS. If you want to improve your modeling efforts, compete against the plastic guys. I have done so and won in both ship and aircraft categories. It's all in the details!
