There was a mention in the other thread about a name for the newsletter, I thought "Then Cutting Mat" was pretty good.

Was just thinking, and I don't know where this fits in, but what about group buys.

I'd be glad to head up the newsletter.

I always liked the thought of a newsletter called Tabs
I'll throw into a paper modelling newsletter a free scratchbuilt skyscraper model I'll make at some point although I'm rather slow at getting them designed and made, but freebies would be good. I'll have a word on skyscrapercity scale models message board about more free ones as lots of people generate some great models there. |

Group buys are basically where a bunch of folks from a forum or SIG get together with a vendor and arrange to all purchase a particular item at a quantity discount. It takes some doing but can often drum up business for the vendor and provide savings for a bunch of people who all would like to purchase the same item.
I'm not sure it has an application in our hobby - but it might on some of the more popular/bigger kits - I've normally seen it done on some of my car enthusiast forums where a group buy on a particular aftermarket part is arranged and the vendor of that item agrees that if a certain minimum number of the item is purchased at once, they will offer a discount to all those involved. It is a nice way for vendors to give back to a community that supports them.
