My photos
Thank you to all who responded to the photographs I posted. I really appreciate the comments. It certainly is a long process to carve the ornamentation and my scrap box over flows.
I am reading the forum with interest and considering the possibility of crafting a paper model. My real interest is in the rather ornate ships of the 17th and 18th century. So far I have only seen a few card model kits like that. If anyone has information on this type of kit, I would be interested in hearing that. Regards, Bill

Shipyard from Poland would be your best bet, visit some of the other paper model forums and do a search on Shipyard, I think you will find something will interest you.
You can check out the Cleopatra being built by birder for information on it Larry (Max) Maxwell(R.I.P.) over on the Zealot boards was working on the Cleo too. Rick

Bill, your work is wonderful. I wish I could give you pointers for card, but that would be foolish, my ship is the first I've done in paper ( have done aircraft almost exclusuvely). Card is a nice medium to work, and you can likely decrease the time factor to make a nice ship considerably but still make a great model. There is presently a build thread on Victory from shipyard which I am following, and some older threads at zealot. Other kits are available, but may not have the fit that shipyard has. If you jump into one we would love to follow your progress!

That's just amazing - I'm gobsmacked.....
Then I thought how would you do that in card. Perhaps if the carvings were decomposed into layers of card and the layers stacked the carving could be approximated. Regards, Charlie |
